World-Famous Composers' Music for Selected Vilnius Locations

Music for Vilnius is extension of annual contemporary site-specific music festival Muzika erdvėje. The project – a part of the official anniversary program – unites some of the most prominent world composers to create site specific music compositions dedicated to the public spaces of Vilnius, which highlight the identity of the capital city that celebrates its 700th anniversary in 2023, important paradigms of the city history, the present and the future visions: architectural / urbanistic, multicultural, social, ecological, innovative and other narratives.

The compositions will be publicly presented by LENsemble Vilnius at those spaces during a series of concerts that are planned to take place in spring and summer of 2023. Premieres will be lead by other events like tours, educations, talks, portrait concerts, etc.

Once the musical pieces have been presented, the intention is to make them available for listening indefinitely. In addition, a special Music for Vilnius route will be prepared and distributed in the audio and virtual tour formats.

The project is lead by the composers Matas Drukteinis and Vykintas Baltakas.

The project is organised by the Public Establishment Meno Genas in collaboration with the Lithuanian Ensemble Network (LENsemble). The main partner – Lithuanian Composers’ Union. Supported by Vilnius City, the Government of the Republic of Lithuania and Lithuanian Council for Culture.
